Volunteers can now register to become a Tri Maker at 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series Sunderland as the city prepares to host the triathlon event for the first time.

Next summer the world’s best triathletes and thousands of participants will race at Roker Beach from 29-30 July featuring elite triathlon races and mass participation swim, bike, run events.

The event is now looking for volunteers to support over the event weekend, offering a great opportunity to be part of and contribute to the success of this international triathlon event.

There will be volunteer opportunities available in all aspects of the event, with a range of roles available from engaging with spectators, working with media, and marshalling routes as the athletes compete.

Alongside the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of the event, there’s also the chance to develop key personal skills like teamwork, customer service and handling positions of responsibility.

Jonny Hamp, British Triathlon’s Director of Events, said: “Our events wouldn’t be possible without our amazing team of Tri Makers each year who not only help to make the events happen but also ensure great experiences for everyone involved, from participants and elite athletes to coaches, spectators and the media.

“We’re really excited to be bringing the World Triathlon Championship Series to Sunderland for the first time and this presents a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to experience an event like you’ve never experienced before by registering to be a Tri Maker.

“We always receive really positive feedback about the valuable and rewarding experiences volunteering at our events provide, and I would like to say a big thank you in advance to all the Tri Makers who register to volunteer in Sunderland next year.”

Councillor Graeme Miller, Leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity to be part of a major international sporting event, which will see some of the world’s best athletes in action along our wonderful seafront.

“The Tri Makers who did such an excellent job volunteering at the British Triathlon Super Series Grand Final in Sunderland last summer, really did the city proud and I hope many of them will sign up to help out again this year. I’d also encourage anyone who is interested in making a difference to come forward and play their part in this fantastic event."

A highlight of the international triathlon calendar, the event in Sunderland will see thousands of participants swim, bike, run across two days of action which will also include the elite triathlon races, all with the scenic backdrop of Roker Beach and the Sunderland seafront.
