University of Leeds named Official Education Partner of AJ Bell 2022 WTCS Leeds

The University has signed a three-year deal with the British leg of the World Triathlon Championship Series that will provide many benefits to its students.

The sixth edition of the event on 11 and 12 June, AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds will include open participation races alongside elite individual triathlon, with this year also seeing mixed relay triathlon added to the schedule for the first time.

Already integral to triathlon in the UK as the home of the Brownlee Centre and Cycle Circuit - the country’s first purpose-built triathlon training centre - the University’s partnership brings with it a student placement programme to support employability skills, and volunteer opportunities at the World Triathlon Series Leeds, taking place on 11 and 12 June at Roundhay Park in Leeds.

Andy Salmon, British Triathlon CEO, said: “Our association with the University of Leeds is well established through the performance centre we have based in the city which is home to a number of our top athletes.

“Welcoming them as a partner of AJ Bell 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Leeds is a great way to further deepen our relationship and provide more of their students and stakeholders with the opportunity to engage in swim, bike, run, whether participating, volunteering or as part of their studies.”

Rob Wadsworth, Interim Commercial Director, University of Leeds, said:

“The University has a strong and proud tradition of supporting city-wide community sports events and initiatives. It is a key contributor to the success of triathlon in the UK, supporting world-class athletes such as alumni Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee.

“Our investment in facilities such as the Brownlee Centre provides fantastic opportunities for our students, staff and the wider community.

“We are proud to be the Official Education Partner and look forward to working with British Triathlon to provide opportunities to continue to enhance our student experience.”
