Local businesses help bring global swim, bike, run event to Sunderland

With thousands of opportunities to get involved in swim, bike, run as well as elite triathletes from around the world competing in Sunderland on 29-30 July, local businesses Barclays, Stoneacre Toyota and Sunderland Echo are partnering with the event.

AJ Bell 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series Sunderland will bring together participants as young as four and some of the top athletes from around the world to swim, bike, run in Sunderland this summer.

The event is a partnership between British Triathlon and Sunderland City Council, with a number of businesses getting involved to support the event alongside UK Sport and World Triathlon. Find out more about the event by visiting https://sunderland.triathlon.org.

Barclays, Stoneacre Toyota and Sunderland Echo have become the first Tri10 partners to get involved ahead of this summer, with the local businesses becoming part of the north east of England’s first triathlon event of this calibre.

By partnering with the event, the three businesses will help provide participation opportunities to thousands and be promoted to a local, national and global audience as participants travel to Sunderland from across the UK and the elite racing is broadcast live on BBC.

The weekend of 29-30 July will see Roker Beach host the penultimate stage on the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series, with elite individual and mixed relay triathlon taking place on top of the various participation races.

There are four opportunities to participate over the weekend that range from a combined swimming and running family event to three different distances for swim, bike, run for beginners and experienced participants alike.

On the announcement of the new partners, Samantha Allen, Event Director at AJ Bell 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series Sunderland, said: “We’re delighted that the first of our Tri10 partners are now onboard with helping to bring the event to life in Sunderland for amateur and elite participants alike.

“The event will bring a global audience and global exposure to Roker Beach and the wider Sunderland area, and it’s great that local businesses will be able to benefit.”
